Do I need to own a shotgun?You will need to own, or bring your own gun to these sessions. There is no provision to hire guns from Stubbs Hall Game Days. If you do not own your own shotgun, you can be accompanied by a shotgun owner with a valid certificate. They must escort you at all times and are responsible for your actions.

Do I need a shotgun certificate?If you own your own shotgun, you should already have a certificate. Please bring this with you as we may ask to see it prior to any session. Your licence must be in date and valid. If you are banned from using a firearm as a result of a custodial prison sentence, then you cannot shoot at any clay pigeon shoot in the United Kingdom.

What type of cartridge should I bring?This is personal preference for the cartridge you wish to use, however it should be substantial enough to cleanly kill your quarry. We ask however not shot is larger than 34g, and a No4 shot. What is essential is: · Biodegradable wads must be used · Steal shot or equivalent MUST be used for wildfowling. What should I wear?We ask you to dress suitably for the countryside and time of the year. We recommend sturdy walking type shoes/boots. Safety equipment (ie. safety glasses and cap) are highly recommended, and ear protection is essential for any session. A recommended kit list is available under the 'Useful Information' tab. What is simulated game?Simulated Game Shooting is where we replicate a live game shoot using clay targets instead of real game birds. The targets are set to follow the path of partridge, grouse or pheasant in a ‘driven’ pattern from our unique clay trailers over the line of guns. The entire shoot is designed to give the same feel as a live game shoot, but can be a lot faster and more intense.

Do I need insurance?Yes, appropriate insurance is required to attend any of our days covering the appropriate date(s). You will be asked to sign a disclaimer to say as such on booking

What is "shooting etiquette"?In short, it’s about common sense and good manners – treat other people as you would like to be treated yourself and you won’t go far wrong. We would suggest adhering the following: Put your mobile phone away Listen carefully to the shoot briefing Follow the shooting safety rules to the letter Make sure you are on the correct peg assigned to you and follow the number card accordingly Tipping the game keeper - If a live game shoot has been attended, it is customary to give a tip to the game keeper, especially if you have enjoyed the day, to show appreciation for the time, effort and dedication which goes into caring for and maintaining the bird population. If a tip is not given, it will be assumed you have not enjoyed the day.

Can you buy gift vouchers?Gift vouchers are available, and can be redeemed in part or as a whole payment for a service. Vouchers can be purchased under the 'Gift Voucher' tab.

Do days still run in inclement weather?Being an outdoor sport we will shoot in all weathers including rain and snow. The only time we will need to stop is for lightening or very poor visibility.

Can I bring my own dog?Yes, providing your dog can stay in control at all times (if not then you will be asked to put it on a lead) and is used to the sound of gun shot. For the Live Shoots - Guns may bring their own dogs but they must be steady to shot and have no recall issues. If own dog is brought please ensure you liaise with your picking up team prior to bird retrieval. No birds are to be retrieved during a drive, unless they are a runner and must be dispatched quickly. These will be monitored and completed by the picking up team.

How do I apply for a gun certificate?Visit the government website here for the application form and click here for help with your medical certificate which is required for your application.

Can I bring a friend or loader?You may bring a friend so long as they adhere to the safety rules and regulations. If they wish to join us for food and refreshments a small charge will be requested and sent for payment prior to your arrival to cover this. We do not allow loaders to attend on any live game days.

Can those under 18 attend?Young people between the ages of 14-17 years can attend all sessions at Stubbs Hall Game Days as long as they are accompanied and supervised by an appropriate adult with a shotgun certificate. From the age of 18 a young person can attend in their own right as long as they have a valid shotgun certificate to cover the dates(s) booked.

Can you bring a picking up dog on live shoot days?Guns may bring their own dogs but they must be steady to shot and have no recall issues.
